In March 2025 Oracle extended Premier Support for E-Business Suite 12.2 through at least 2036. For many companies that changes the question from "when do we leave EBS?" to "how do we run it well?".
In March 2025, Oracle announced that Premier Support for Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2 is extended through at least 2036. Oracle also continues to ship new 12.2 releases and updates.
That is a long runway. For companies that have been under pressure to plan a move to Oracle Cloud ERP, it opens a real choice: stay on EBS for the next decade, or move on your own timetable.
If you are still on 12.1
The extension applies to 12.2. If you run 12.1.3, the priority is upgrading to 12.2. That upgrade introduces online patching (ADOP) and edition-based redefinition, which affects how custom code must be written and deployed. Typical work includes:
- Checking custom objects against the 12.2 development standards and fixing violations.
- Retesting custom forms, reports, workflows and interfaces.
- Updating your patching and release process for online patching.
Reasons to stay on EBS
- It works. Your processes, reports and controls are built around it.
- Customizations. Many EBS systems carry business-critical extensions that would need to be redesigned in a SaaS ERP.
- Cost and disruption. A cloud ERP project is a multi-year change program. Delaying it frees budget for other priorities.
Reasons to plan a move anyway
- You want new capabilities that are only in Oracle Cloud ERP, such as quarterly updates and built-in AI features.
- Your EBS skills are thin and hard to hire, onshore at least.
- Your infrastructure or database is due for a refresh anyway.
How to run EBS well for the next ten years
- Get onto current 12.2 code levels and a supported database release, and stay there with a regular patching rhythm.
- Clean up customizations. Retire unused reports and personalizations; document the rest.
- Move reporting to BI Publisher templates that finance teams can maintain.
- Put integrations behind APIs so a future move to Oracle Cloud only means replacing one side.
- Secure stable support capacity. A support retainer with agreed response times, covering month-end and payroll windows, avoids depending on one or two people.
Where an offshore EBS team fits
Ongoing EBS support is a steady flow of tickets, reports and small enhancements, which is well suited to an offshore team on a monthly retainer. Level 8 provides technical and functional EBS consultants on shifts that match your business hours, including a Sunday-to-Thursday week for Saudi clients.
